چکیده
Abstract Current urban development practices are predicted to be largely unsustainable, placing an increasing burden on surrounding ecological systems. One mitigation effort involves expanding green infrastructure and alleviating challenges by building in cooperation with processes. Cities investing large-scale projects such as parks, bioswales (roadside plantings), roofs. Recently, scientists have begun explore the principles that govern assembly long-term performance of rooftop communities. In Fall 2013 Spring 2017, students Microbiology Molecular Biology laboratory courses at Barnard College engaged surveys soil microbial communities from different types installations evaluate factors structure community assembly. These enabled witness contribute developing sustainability measures. The results contributed a successful grant application, Master’s thesis, several peer-reviewed publications lead or co-authors. Two students, inspired their exposure infrastructure, demonstrated negative impacts nitrogen deposition sensitive roadside installations. Students expressed increased feeling ownership pride due authenticity novelty work engagement both course project sustainability.

OBJECTIVES Municipal policies aiming to improve equity in food access and health often rely on the assumption that neighborhoods with limited healthy food availability and high levels of diet-related illness should be the subject of targeted policy-driven change. This study explored this assumption in the context of recent food policy developments in New York City with the objective of empirica...
متن کاملDevelopment of a Green Roof Environmental Monitoring and Meteorological Network in New York City
Green roofs (with plant cover) are gaining attention in the United States as a versatile new environmental mitigation technology. Interest in data on the environmental performance of these systems is growing, particularly with respect to urban heat island mitigation and stormwater runoff control. We are deploying research stations on a diverse array of green roofs within the New York City area,...

to use this or any Its infrastructure effectively, one must also have an overarching system view/control philosophy, timely and sufficiently precise information, and the means to implement effective control algorithms/rules. the “means” includes advanced traffic controllers, communications, and the integrated system. More efficient traffic control operation of roads and public transportation ca...

Access to fresh fruits and vegetables is a concern, particularly among low-income populations. Mobile vending is one strategy to expand produce availability and access to increase consumption. In 2008, New York City launched a mobile vending initiative, Green Carts. We report on the evaluation. Three waves of cross-sectional observational surveys of produce availability, variety, and quality we...
